Ave/Dav

Located at the prominent Toronto intersection of Avenue Road and Davenport Road, “Av/Dav” is a full-block development that can be read as the gateway to Yorkville – one of the city’s most prestigious neighbourhoods. The high-end, 35-storey development has been designed with a clear delineation between the tower and podium in both massing and materiality highlighting the tower as a focal point in the skyline.

The podium is developed to appear as three distinct but architecturally unified “buildings” which respond to the neighbourhood context in form and materiality. The tower volume of Av/Dav provides unobstructed, southern views of the downtown Toronto skyline and Ramsden Park to the East. The tower mass was strategically carved in an effort to minimize the shadowing impact on the park. In addition, the tower’s corners have been notched to preserve existing sightlines and the overall building length was reduced to maintain sightlines from existing, neighbouring buildings to the North.

Based on feedback from City of Toronto Planning staff, the tower mass was softened with the application of a curved balcony treatment to create a more organic expression. The rounded articulation of the façade also mimics the curvature of Davenport Road to the west.
